Vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWT) are a type of wind turbine where the main rotor shaft runs vertically. The advantages of this arrangement are that VAWT do not need to be pointed into the wind direction.
Few Designs are Often described as looking like an eggbeater, it has vertical blades that rotate into and out of the wind. Using aerodynamic lift, it can capture more energy than drag devices.
One of the design Savonius turbine is S-shaped if viewed from above. This drag-type turbine turns relatively slowly but yields a high torque. It is useful for various task like grinding grain, pumping water, and many, but its slow rotational speeds are not good for generating electricity.
